Johnson: Chairman will not spend £14m on one player

Gary Johnson has revealed he will have money to spend on players after signing a two-year deal as new manager of Peterborough.

The former Bristol City boss is looking forward to working under chairman Darragh MacAnthony and wants to steer relegated Posh straight back to the Championship.

Johnson told Sky Sports News: "We've been promised funds. Obviously he's (MacAnthony) probably not going to go out and spend £14million on somebody. I'm not stupid enough to think that. I've always had a good relationship with my chairmen and if I need something I will go to them and then they can tell me yes or no, so only time will tell."

He added: "But I trust that he wants to take this football club as high as possible and that's why I'm here because I believe we can do that."

When asked where he sees himself in two years time, Johnson said: "Hopefully still here and hopefully we've moved up a level or so. The chairman doesn't like hearing words like consolidation, he always talks about when we win the league and we get a trophy and that's good because it keeps the manager on his toes."
