Fulham defender Brede Hangeland has been outlined as a potential summer target for Arsenal, according to the Daily Telegraph.

It is thought that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is planning a summer clear out at the back in an attempt to strengthen his defence for next season.

The Gunners defensive frailties were exposed on Tuesday night when Lionel Messi ripped apart the Arsenal back line, who were missing the influential figure of William Gallas.

Sol Campbell is likely to leave the Emirates at the end of the season when he contract expires whilst the future of William Gallas also remains uncertain who is yet to agree a new deal.

Wenger is keen to add another centre back to his talented team in the summer and has identified Brede Hangeland as a potential candidate after impressing in the Premier League.

However, Fulham manager Roy Hodgson will be reluctant to part with the 28-year-old with teammate Chris Smalling already heading to Old Trafford in the summer.
