Ben Davies grabbed the second-half winner for promotion-chasing Notts County as they took all three points with a 1-0 victory at Northampton.

It was a match Northampton should have got something from after dominating for most of the match, but their play-off hopes took a knock with only their third defeat of 2010.

The Cobblers completely dominated the first half and Steve Guinan missed their best chance in the 13th minute, racing onto Billy Mckay's pass but with only Kasper Schmeichel to beat he allowed the keeper to save.

Dean Beckwith had a shot cleared off the line in the 29th minute but two minutes after the restart County grabbed the winner when Davies capitalised on a mistake by Craig Hinton to score.

Luke Guttridge had an effort cleared off the line, substitute Kevin Thornton also had a goal-bound effort blocked and in stoppage time substitute Seb Harris headed wide.

In between Jason Steele made a superb double save to deny Lee Hughes and also tipped over from Davies.
