Kevin De Bruyne has been nothing short of remarkable this season. The Belgian has proven his class week in, week out for Manchester City this season and is rightly being talked about as one of the top players in the world.De Bruyne has scored nine goals in all competitions this season and it was his late strike against Bristol City in the week that sealed City’s place in the Carabao Cup final. The 26-year-old also produced a fine assist in the match, prompting Jamie Carragher to tweet: “What a player.”

It was De Bruyne’s 13th assist of the campaign and it’s unsurprising that he is the bookmakers’ favourite to be named the Premier League’s Player of the Year at the end of the season.

Lampard has heaped praise on De Bruyne

One man who believes De Bruyne is fully deserving of the award is Frank Lampard.

The Chelsea legend has lavished praise on De Bruyne, praising his range of passing in particular.

“He’s beautiful to watch at the moment,” Lampard told The Sun. “Everything he does is brilliant and I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t win Player of the Year.

“Every pass he makes seems to be the right one.

“People talk a lot about assists when a player whips in a corner or plays a simple sideways pass. But so many of Kevin’s assists are incredible slide-rule passes.”

Lampard: KDB was right to leave Chelsea

Lampard was present when Chelsea sold De Bruyne to Wolfsburg in 2014 and he’s praised the playmaker for seizing the opportunity to get regular minutes.

“Kevin could have taken the easy option by staying at Chelsea for the money but he went away to Germany and has come back to the Premier League and really shown his character,” Lampard added.

What Lampard said about KDB's departure

The decision to offload De Bruyne certainly does look more perplexing with each passing week.

It’s easy to wonder how Chelsea failed to recognise his talent but Lampard admitted last year that De Bruyne simply wasn’t close to the level required to start over Eden Hazard and Oscar.

"I think it was a difficult time for the club because they had Hazard, they had Oscar and Willian had just signed so you couldn't play them all,” Lampard said, per the Mirror.

"And Kevin De Bruyne, his development wasn't where it is now.”
