Ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics shooting guard Marcus Smart was surprisingly added to the injury report with a hand injury and ended up missing the game. There was a lot of initial confusion about the injury, but shortly after the news broke, coach Brad Stevens revealed that Smart had broken his hand on glass at the team hotel. That obviously led to all sorts of hypotheses thrown around on social media and beyond. Was he involved in a fight? Did he slam his hand through a window or table? Did someone hit him with a glass object? The possibilities were endless. On Friday, Smart cleared up any rumors and told the embarrassing truth about what happened in a public apology.“I want to take this time to express my sincerest apologies to my teammates, coaches, and most of all the amazing Boston Celtics fans. I'm embarrassed and disappointed in my actions. I swiped at and hit a picture frame on the wall. I feel like I let all y'all down,” he tweeted.“I promise I will learn from this situation and come back better than ever. I love y'all and I truly appreciate all the support,” he added. He fought a picture frame and the frame clearly won.

Smart reportedly returned to Boston on Thursday and was evaluated by doctors. He will miss multiple weeks due to the mishap and lack of judgement.

As you might imagine, the defensive specialist’s team wasn’t thrilled.

"Disappointed, as you can imagine," Stevens said of Smart's actions, per Chris Forsferg of ESPN. "That's probably the right word for it. It is what it is. … Obviously, he's a very passionate person and didn't handle his emotions correctly [this week]. That’s something that we'll talk about more with him and go from there.”

Stevens also added that the team will not rule out internally disciplining Smart. Teammate Al Horford made it clear that the team still stands behind Smart despite his mistake.

"It's unfortunate to see that. Marcus is a teammate that I have a lot of respect for, and I'm going to stand by him," Horford said. "Whatever the decision was, he made a bad decision. As a group, we're going to support him, and I hope that he gets well. We expect him to be back.”

Unfortunately for Boston, they’ll be without their best defensive player when they take on the Warriors on Saturday.
