WWE has announced a new name for this year’s men’s Royal Rumble match.

That star is former WWE Champion Roman Reigns. Since the former WWE Champion separated from his former Shield members (Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose) a few years ago, WWE has attempted to make him the next big Superstar.

The next big babyface or another version of John Cena. This has not sat well with fans, who see what WWE is doing. They are not behind it despite the company’s best attempt to get him over.

Just by looking at the booking, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon wants Reigns to be the guy so much so that they have had him main event three straight WrestleMania’s.

He faced Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 31 in 2015, challenged Triple H for the title at WrestleMania 32 in 2016 and then wrestled The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 this year.

He has had many accolades during his short time with the sports entertainment company. Reigns is a three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, a one-time United States Champion, a one-time WWE Tag Team Champion (with Rollins), the 2015 Royal Rumble winner and the 2014 Superstar of the Year. Make no mistake about, Reigns is the guy in WWE.

The former WWE Champion’s push as an underdog has been marked by critics' disapproval and overwhelmingly negative crowd reactions.

WWE announced today that Reigns has been added to the Royal Rumble Match. As of writing, 12 spots remain open in the Royal Rumble Match.

Reigns joins John Cena, Finn Bálor, Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, The Miz, Elias, Baron Corbin, Matt Hardy, Bray Wyatt, Aiden English, Rusev, Titus O’Neil, Apollo Crews, Tye Dillinger, Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods as the names confirmed for the Royal Rumble match.

The Royal Rumble pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, January 28, 2018 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Wells Fargo Center and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets. Both Raw and SmackDown brands will be featured.

It’s been reported for months now that Lesnar is expected to defend the Universal Title against Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 34. WrestleMania 34 is set to be held on April 8, 2018, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

This event airs on pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network and is the most successful and longest-running professional wrestling event in history. Both Raw and SmackDown rosters will be featured on the card.
