After defeats to Swansea in the Premier League and West Brom in the FA Cup, Liverpool fans are calling on their club to make a signing or two before the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday night.

However, while it appears there will be no arrivals at Anfield in the coming days, there could well be some outgoings.

One of those players that is highly likely to leave is Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge has been limited to just nine league appearances this season and has been left out of the matchday squad in recent weeks.

With the World Cup in the summer, it’s believed the forward is keen to leave Merseyside for regular first-team football but the only interest appeared to be abroad - with the likes of Inter Milan and Sevilla sniffing around.

However, it seems there is one Premier League club willing to take a chance on the 28-year-old.

According to The Times, Sturridge is “close” to joining Newcastle United in a loan move this month.

The final details of his loan move are currently being negotiated but it seems Sturridge wants to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side to join Rafa Benitez’s team.

Newcastle will have to pay a loan fee of around £1.5 million and cover Sturridge’s £120,000-per-week wages for the remainder of the campaign.

The Daily Mail back up the report in The Times and state that Newcastle have 'joined the race' to sign Sturridge with Benitez “desperate” to sign a striker in this window.

The Toon Army have scored just 22 in 24 league matches and need to address that issue if they want to survive relegation.

KLOPP ON STURRIDGE'S SITUATION

After he was left out of Liverpool’s FA Cup loss against West Brom, Klopp explained the situation with Sturridge.

"I have never in my life promised a player game time for the next few months," Klopp said.

"It is not possible. We have mentioned all the things like it was so far. When Daniel is fit, training and in shape, he is still an outstanding striker — there is no doubt about that. But he did not play the last few weeks — for different reasons.

"Of course one of them was Roberto Firmino's performance, then Dom Solanke's development. And Daniel in and out of training. In general more in than out in training, but the time he was in he was a little unlucky with games.'"
