They’ve left it late but it seems Arsenal have finally struck a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners have been linked with the Gabon international throughout this transfer window and reports suggest a £55.4 million deal has now been agreed.

Given his goalscoring record, it seems Arsenal have got themselves a bit of a bargain in the modern transfer market.

Aubameyang has scored 100 goals in his previous 118 appearances for Dortmund and has established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in European football.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he can translate that kind of form in the Premier League.

After all, when Lacazette arrived at the Emirates he had scored an impressive 91 goals in his last 129 appearances for Lyon. But in north London, he’s only managed nine in 27 matches and has sometimes struggling to adapt to the pace of football in England.

But Gooners have greater hope as far as Aubameyang is concerned.

That’s because he’s come up against English sides on numerous occasions during his Dortmund career - and his record is rather incredible.

In fact, he’s played against Arsenal’s north London rivals, Spurs, on four occasions and scored four goals.

Elsewhere, he’s also played against Arsenal four times - scoring once - and faced Liverpool on three occasions also scoring once.

So that’s five goals in 11 competitive matches against three big English sides during his time at Dortmund.

Not bad.

Does that prove he can produce the goods in the Premier League when he eventually joins? Well, Arsenal fans will be hoping that’s the case.

While he’ll be ineligible in the Europa League, he can play in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City and could help Arsenal get back into the Champions League by finishing in the top-four.

He’ll certainly be looking forward to the north London derby.
