The January transfer window has been a fascinating one for every top club in the country, with all of the top six getting involved.

Runaway league leaders Manchester City entered the month secure in the knowledge that they'd be adding Alexis Sanchez to their already dominant squad - a player they've chased for the past year - only to find themselves watching on as the Chilean completed a move to Manchester United.

United got one over on their rivals but lost Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the deal, while Tottenham remained quiet until near the end; Spurs are expected to complete a deal for Paris-Saint Germain's Lucas Moura before the window shuts.

Liverpool started things off with an enormous bang - completing a deal for Virgil van Dijk at a world-record fee for a defender and selling Brazil star Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for a British-record fee - but things have been bizarrely silent for the Reds ever since.

And then there's Chelsea, a team who have made headlines more through their targets than any actual signings.

Their latest - after being spurned in attempts to sign Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch, and Edin Dzeko - is Olivier Giroud, drawing the Frenchman into the insanity that has been Arsenal's window.

Arsenal have lost their best player to one of their rivals, but got a player back in return, while enduring speculation over the futures of Mesut Ozil & Jack Wilshere and trying to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

It has all left the Gunners in the news from start to finish and, naturally, there has been one last twist right at the finish.

News broke on Sunday evening that Chelsea wanted Giroud, while Monday saw reports that the French international would very much like a move there, even turning down Dortmund through a desire to remain in London.

But right when things looked clear-cut, the Guardian is reporting that West Ham would also like Giroud - and Arsenal are much more comfortable with him going there.

Having already sold one player to an arch-rival, the prospect of selling a second one in the same window angered Arsenal fans - and it does appear to make little sense.

Whether West Ham can afford a £35 million asking price remains to be seen, but Chelsea certainly can. The determination of West Ham appears to be key here, or Arsenal fans could yet again be seeing a rival strengthen with one of their current stars.
