Floyd Mayweather is now happily retired and staying out of the headlines, keeping himself to himself, and slipping quietly into the shadows.

Or, so we thought.

Over the past few months, rumours have been circulating that the American is considering a move to the UFC to try his hand in the Octagon.

During the world tour for the May-Mac boxing fight, there were some bold words spoken about a rematch taking place inside the cage.

Talks with Dana White are said to have taken place covertly, and the idea of Mayweather staying retired seemed to be crumbling by the day.

Oscar De La Hoya is the latest to voice his opinion on the matter.

Speaking to TMZ, the Californian told reporters that Floyd would be humiliated in the Octagon and tap out within 10 seconds.

De La Hoya was one of the most vocal people to speak out against the Mayweather-McGregor fight last year.

The spiteful nature of his demeanour in the build up to that fight can be attributed to the negative impact it had on his promotion’s own super fight a few weeks later: Canelo-Golovkin.

It is common knowledge that the one-time Mayweather opponent felt the circus of Mayweather-McGregor reduced the PPV numbers of his Golden Boy Promotions fight.

It should come as little surprise therefore that he has a withering view of Money’s chances in the UFC world.

Who Mayweather’s potential first opponent might be is anybody’s guess. One suspects the only person with the star power to tempt him would be McGregor.

But, in a world where a Mayweather-McGregor boxing super-fight could happen at six weeks’ notice, the idea of Mayweather crossing over into the Irishman's world isn’t as far fetched as it initially sounded.
