Southend have been given a further week to pay their £400,000 tax bill after their High Court case over a winding-up order was adjourned until next Wednesday.
United, who settled a £2.1-million tax bill last November, have paid their players' wages late several times this season with February's issued last week and March's still due.
However, it now seems they have avoided going out of business, despite being given an initial payment deadline of Wednesday, and a club spokesman said: "There has been a seven day adjournment pending the funds being transferred. The funds are going to be sent immediately and should be with HM Revenue and Customs within 24 to 48 hours."
