Chelsea will go head-to-head with Real Madrid to sign AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport.

It is rumoured that the Italian giants are looking to offload Pato this summer, with Chelsea and Real Madrid leading the chase.

Milan have enforced new budgetary requirements at the cub and will slash their wage bill this summer, which could see a few high profile players leaving the San Siro.

The 20 year-old has been in impressive form for Milan this season scoring 14 goals in 28 appearances and has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe.

Despite already having strikers Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka on their books, Chelsea want to add another top striker to their squad ready for another assault on the Champions League next season.

Pato signed for Milan in 2007 from Internacional and is now in his third season at the San Siro. The striker has been a prolific striker for the Italian side scoring 36 goals in just 74 appearances.
