Heading into the January transfer window, you couldn’t blame Arsenal fans for fearing the worst. They knew that both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez could leave for relatively cheap considering they had just six months remaining on the contract. And the Gunners weren’t exactly being linked with high-profile players in the meantime. However, the north London club could be entering February in better shape than they entered January.Despite losing Sanchez to Manchester United, they received Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return. And one of Mkhitaryan’s former teammates at Borussia Dortmund - Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - is also set to arrive at the Emirates.Gooners have got to be happy with that. But there’s something they’re not particularly happy about - the prospect of losing Olivier Giroud to a rival. If Aubameyang does arrive before Wednesday’s deadline, it’s believed Giroud will make the move across London to Chelsea. And despite struggling for regular first-team football at Arsenal this season, he is something of a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium. And one man that certainly isn’t too pleased to see the Frenchman leave is club legend Ian Wright.

IAN WRIGHT REACTS TO SELLING OLIVIER GIROUD

He was speaking on BBC Radio 5 live and described signing Aubameyang and selling Giroud is like “losing a tenner, and finding a fiver.”

"Why would they sell him [Giroud]? It doesn't make sense," he said on BBC Radio 5 live, per the Mirror.

"It really would be like lose a tenner, find a fiver.

"So we've got Lacazette and fingers crossed Aubameyang and no big guy on the bench.

"You are talking about bringing on Danny Welbeck, or if Lacazette's not playing then him.

"We haven't got that guy that's proven off the bench to come on and score goals.”

ARSENAL FANS REACT

But it's fair to say that Arsenal fans disagree with Wright. They believe that Aubameyang is far better than Giroud and have reacted strongly on Twitter:

Reports claim that Aubameyang has already arrived in London ahead of his medical - although a move won’t be agreed until Dortmund have found a replacement. But if the Gabon international does arrive, it seems Giroud will be making an exit.

With a little more than 24 hours remaining, it’s set to be an incredible end to this January transfer window.
