Henrikh Mkhitaryan made his Arsenal debut on Tuesday night - but it didn’t exactly go to plan.

The Armenian was introduced on the hour mark against Swansea with the scores level at 1-1. The Gunners really needed all three points to keep within five points of Liverpool in fourth.

But within seconds of Mkhitaryan entering the pitch, Arsenal conceded a rather comical goal as Petr Cech’s scuffed clearance fell straight to Jordan Ayew, who finished.

And Mkhitaryan couldn’t make much of a difference as Sam Clucas soon grabbed his second of the match to give Swansea an incredible 3-1 victory.

Not the debut Mkhitaryan was hoping for.

But that’s not to say it was a complete disaster for the former Manchester United midfielder.

That’s because Mkhitaryan actually showed glimpses of what he’s all about. While he couldn’t make an impact, an individual highlights video has emerged that showed early signs of promise.

Mkhitaryan often picked up the ball in dangerous positions and caused Swansea a few problems with neat little passes into a teammate. And he also came very close to scoring with a header - although he was ruled offside.

He certainly wasn't afraid to get on the ball and try to create opportunities for his teammates.

The video clearly shows Mkhitaryan operating from the left-hand side for the majority of the match - although he often came inside looking for the ball as he tried to create an opening.

WENGER EXPLAINED WHY HE DIDN'T START

Arsenal fans may have been disappointed not to see Mkhitaryan start the match but Wenger explained why both he - and Jack Wilshere - had been left out.

“They are both on bench and I think we have a similar team,” Wenger said before the match.

“Wilshere is out because he’s sick and Aaron Ramsey comes in for him.

“Apart from that, Mkhitaryan has to adapt so we give him some time.

“He’s not played the full 90 minutes for a long time but looks quite sharp and ready to play."
