Ever since they won the Premier League title in 2016, Leicester City have had to deal with interest in Riyad Mahrez. The Foxes have done extremely well to keep hold of the Algerian winger for so long but once again, they’re having to fend off interest from one of the big boys. The Daily Mail reported that Manchester City launched a £50 million bid for Mahrez on Tuesday and, after it was rejected, followed it up with a £55m offer on Wednesday morning.Leicester rejected that offer too, and told Man City that they would need to pay nearly £100m to sign Mahrez on deadline day. The Citizens have since bid £65m for the player, according to Sky Sports, and have offered an unnamed player in return.

It remains to be seen whether Mahrez will leave the King Power Stadium today but he has done all he can to force a move away from the club.

How Leicester players have reacted to Mahrez's behaviour

The 26-year-old handed in a transfer request and failed to turn up for training on Tuesday. He also hasn’t joined the squad for this evening’s game against Everton and the Mail are reporting that Leicester are unsure of his current whereabouts.

Some will criticise Mahrez’s behaviour, while others will understand that he’s simply doing everything he can to realise his dream of playing for a top club.

His teammates, however, certainly don’t see it that way. Per Sky Sports, Leicester players are feeling “angry and let down” by Mahrez’s attempts to force a move to Man City.

Why Mahrez is so frustrated

The Algeria international has watched the Foxes sell N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater and he reportedly feels “frustrated” that they’ve been allowed to depart while he’s been forced to stay.

That’s understandable. But Mahrez is entering his peak years and, having seen Virgil van Dijk move to Liverpool for £75m and Philippe Coutinho join Barcelona for more than £140m, it’s easy to see why Leicester are asking for such a hefty amount for their star man.

Man City have made a new bid for Mahrez

The Mail have recently updated their report on Man City’s interest in Mahrez. They claim the Premier League leaders have raised their bid to £60m in a desperate attempt to prise him away from Leicester before the 11pm deadline.

Should Leicester accept the offer, City will break their transfer record for the second time in 48 hours following the arrival of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for £57m on Tuesday.
