UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was recently involved in a heated exchange on Twitter.

To tell Cormier’s story correctly, the last year has to be documented. Due to a failed drug test, Jon Jones was provisionally suspended by USADA pending a full investigation by the CAC (California Athletic Commission).

Jones defeated Cormier by third-round TKO in the main event of UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, California to regain the title.

The event aired on PPV (pay-per-view). The UFC gave the title back to Cormier as a result of Jones’ failed drug test.

Cormier has already stated that he has 14 months until he hangs up his gloves and ends his pro-MMA career.

As seen in the co-main event of UFC 220 pay-per-view event at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, Cormier was able to score a TKO victory over title contender Volkan Oezdemir.

Although DC wanted this bout, there were many fans who were also arguing that number one-ranked light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson is the more deserving challenger.

If you recall, the two fighters already faced each other at UFC 192 in 2015, where Cormier won via split decision.

Instead, the UFC light heavyweight champion will fight heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. They will also coach the next season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF).

“DC, u talk about the blachowicz fight?! What about when “someone” predicted the left kick and still u fell for it. . .” Gustafsson tweeted.

“Damn Alex, like that? Too late bud, this the shit you should have been saying before the fight was made. Now chill before I beat ur face in again pretty boy!” tweeted Cormier.

“U r the one talking fights here! I’m gonna be ur retirement fight not Stipe I’ll wait.. can’t wait to take u down again.. and again..” tweeted Gustafsson.

UFC 226 is set to take place on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.
