Arsenal have been the story of the January transfer window with the majority of the biggest headline relating to the north london club.Having sold Alexis Sanchez, the Gunners brought in Henrikh Mkhitaryan who was today followed through the door by Borussia Dortmund marksman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who today signed for a club record fee of £56 million.Olivier Giroud then made a hasty exit as he swapped north London for west in a cut-price deal with Chelsea, who have been in the market for a target man all month.Despite all the reinforcements to their attacking line, fans have been eager for Wneger to reinforce a leaky defence as the Gunners struggle to keep pace in the race for the top four. One player seen as a more than viable option to aid in solidifying up the Arsenal backline was West Brom and former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans who surprisingly has been the subject of a lot of interest from the bigger clubs in the league.Having forked out such a large sum for Aubameyang however, it seems that the Arsenal were in no mood to spend too much more money this winter, tabling a frankly pathetic offer for Evans of £12 million - half of what the Northern Irishman is currently valued at.Evans was not named in in the Albion squad for their tie with league leaders Manchester City with Alan Pardew stating the 30-year-old is suffering from a hamstring injury sparking speculation that a last-minute deal could be hashed out before tonights deadline. However, West Brom have naturally rejected the comical offer for their star defender and reports suggest the Gunners are not willing to go any higher and the move may well have fallen through.

Looks like Evans will be staying put for the rest of the season, then.

Some Arsenal fans were less than impressed with their sides failure to capture what could have proved to be a much-needed addition to their stuttering squad, while others saw it as a blessing in disguise.

One to divide opinion then! Looks like we will never know what he could have done in an Arsenal shirt anyway.
