Southend look set to be without skipper Adam Barrett for their clash with Brighton.
The 30-year-old defender limped out of the warm-up before Tuesday`s game with Brentford due to a hamstring complaint and looks certain to miss out.
Barrett`s absence means Pat Baldwin will retain the armband while Jean Yves Mvoto will again deputise in defence.
Manager Steve Tilson is desperate to end a good week, in which United have been given a further week to pay their #400,000 tax bill to Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs, with a win.
"It is another hard game because Brighton are a good side," Tilson told the club`s official website.
"We need to win and I am sure the lads will do their best to get the three points."
Marcos Painter will return to the Brighton squad.
The on-loan Swansea defender has been sidelined since picking up a knee injury three weeks ago but he resumed training on Thursday and could replace Gavin Hoyte at left-back.
Striker Gary Hart is over a back problem and defender Colin Hawkins is progressing well after a long-term heel injury but goalkeeper Michel Kuipers is still out with a broken finger.
Glenn Murray will start in attack again despite a frustrating night in front of goal, including a penalty miss, at Gillingham on Tuesday night.
Gary Dicker will challenge Lee Hendrie for a place in midfield after the former England international started the 1-1 draw at Priestfield.
