Peter Sweeney will return to the Grimsby squad for the visit of Torquay.

The midfielder missed the 2-2 home draw against Chesterfield in midweek with a stomach bug.

Lee Peacock, Adrian Forbes, Michael Leary, Paul Linwood, Nick Hegarty, Adam Proudlock and Jude Stirling are also available should manager Neil Woods wish to make any changes to his starting line-up.

Grimsby will be relegated if they lose and Barnet, Cheltenham and Lincoln all win.

Chief executive Ian Fleming told the Grimsby Telegraph: "The team is fighting and will continue to do so until it is mathematically impossible.

"The backing in the town has been superb and hopefully we can get a good crowd and an important win against Torquay."

Torquay boss Paul Buckle is unlikely to change his winning side.

But the squad could be boosted by the return to fitness of goalkeeper Scott Bevan following a thigh strain which ruled him out of Tuesday's 2-0 win at promotion-chasing Aldershot.

As expected on-loan Southampton stopper Michael Poke - who replaced injured Bevan in last Saturday's 5-0 win over Rochdale - kept his place between the sticks and is set to start again at Blundell Park.

Winger Wayne Carlisle (knee) is back in training but short of match practice so Buckle is set to retain the same outfield 10 for the fifth match in succession following three wins in an unbeaten four-match streak that has eased the Gulls away from the drop zone.

With four matches remaining, 19th-placed United are nine points ahead of second-from-bottom Grimsby with a superior goal difference of 26.
