“It was the realization of the opportunity that was playing in the Super Bowl, the final game, the big stage,” Jay Ajayi says on a conference call when asked about his emotions after the final play of the NFC Conference Championship. “(It’s) something that all of us guys that play in the NFL, any kid that’s grown up loving the game of football, has dreamt about. The feeling of that coming true and the reality after everything that’s gone on in the season, to understand that I’m one step closer to accomplishing my dream.” Ajayi’s dream is a fairly common one for swathes of youngsters across the United States. The dreamers and believers that try to throw like Peyton Manning, catch like Odell Beckham and juke like LaDainian Tomlinson. It’s not a common dream for many people born in Hackney, though. Homerton Hospital has never birthed a Super Bowl player before and it may not do ever again. That’s how special Jay Ajayi’s story is - one that only happens in films - except for Sunday, February 4th, 2018.
