This former WWE World Heavyweight Champion caused a stir on social media.

And the way he did that was by posting a possible dream match with one popular champion. Rey Mysterio understands how to get fans of sports entertainment talking.

Mysterio has had a lot of success while competing under the WWE banner, but you have to keep in mind that his exit from the company was not the greatest.

If you recall, WWE held up his contract and basically froze it due to Mysterio being out of action with injuries.

He was with the company for much longer than his contract originally called for. Mysterio is best known for his appearances with ECW, WCW, and WWE between 1995 and 2015.

He had a decorated career in his professional wrestling career as he has won WWE's World Heavyweight Title, the WWE Title, WWE Cruiserweight Title, WCW World Tag Team Title, WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Title, WWC World Junior Heavyweight Title, WWE Tag Team Title, and WWE Intercontinental Title.

As seen at Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Wells Fargo Center on the WWE Network, Shinsuke Nakamura won the 2018 Royal Rumble Match by beating out John Cena, Finn Balor, and Roman Reigns in the final four.

Mysterio made a surprise appearance in the match. After the event, Mysterio took to his official Instagram account to tease a match against current WWE Champion AJ Styles, who is slated to defend his title in the main event of the biggest event of the year for the sports entertainment company, WrestleMania 34, against Nakamura.

Mysterio commented on his surprise appearance in a backstage interview with WWE.com that was posted on their Youtube channel. Here is what he had to say:

“It’s incredible. It’s been almost three years since I’ve heard that WWE fan reaction and to be honest with you, a lot of people say it’s luck and a lot of people say it’s awesome to hear that but I’ll tell you, I’m truly blessed.

"I’m truly blessed to come back and realize the fans don’t forget about you, and not only the fans but the WWE family. This is a universal reaction and it feels good, it feels great.”
