Hughes inspires County promotion: Match Review

Lee Hughes extended his season's goal tally to 30 with a quickfire double as Notts County sealed automatic promotion in style with a sixth straight victory in a 4-1 win against Morecambe.

The League Two leaders underlined their title credentials from the off, with three goals in the opening 20 minutes.

Craig Westcarr's cross was guided home by Hughes, before Ricky Ravenhill doubled the hosts` advantage with a 20-yard screamer after 14 minutes.

Westcarr then drove a ferocious shot over the bar from range before Hughes span in the area to convert Ben Davies' free-kick to make it 3-0.

Sammy McIlroy's team pressed after the interval, with Mark Duffy's deflected effort hitting the crossbar before David Artell converted Garry Hunter's corner.

It proved nothing more than a consolation as County restored their three-goal cushion moments later.

Davies prodded home Jamie Clapham's centre at the second attempt to stretch their unbeaten run to 14 games and put them in the driving seat for the title.
