Fight fans may not be able to see this fighter compete again.

That fighter is former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who is currently in hot water.

Silva was pulled from his bout against Kelvin Gastelum at the UFC Fight Night 122 event November 25, 2017, at Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China on the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, after he was flagged due to a potential U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation.

The promotion attempted to make this fight happen before. The promotion couldn’t find a replacement to fight Silva at the event and he was pulled from the card.

This bout would have marked Silva’s (34-8 MMA, 17-4 UFC) first appearance in the world famous Octagon since February when he competed against Derek Brunson at UFC 208.

Silva won the bout by decision, which snapped a two-fight losing streak. Silva had hadn’t had an official UFC win since 2012.

They were originally scheduled to fight each other at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro, but Gastelum had to be pulled from the bout after testing positive for marijuana metabolites in a test stemming from a previous bout with Vitor Belfort.

The promotion then was searching to find a replacement for Silva at UFC Fight Night 122, and they found former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping who agreed to fight Gastelum at the event.

As seen at the event, Gastelum beat Bisping by first-round KO. This marks the first time that Silva has potentially violated the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency program.

However, this isn’t his first time failing a drug test as he is a repeat offender. If you recall, he failed a drug test around the time of his UFC 183 fight with Nick Diaz in January 2015 before USADA partnered with the MMA promotion.

As a result of that failure, he received a one-year suspension and $380,000 fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. At the time, Silva claimed that the reason he failed was due to a tainted sexual enhancer.

Combate is reporting that the former UFC middleweight champion tested positive for synthetic testosterone and a diuretic.

According to the report, the synthetic testosterone has a similar impact to that of anabolic steroids.

With all of that being said and counting the history of him testing positive for two banned substances and two banned substances that appear to improve athletic performance, Silva is likely facing a suspension that could be lengthy.

At this stage in the game for the 42 year old, Silva may be forced to announce his retirement if he receives a suspension.
