Joel Embiid is having an outstanding season.Averaging 23.6 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 blocks in 31.6 minutes per game, the Philadelphia 76ers center received his first All-Star selection and was even voted in as a starter.Based on his incredible skill set on both ends of the court, some have already labeled the 23 year old as the best overall center in the NBA.Offensively, his shooting range and touch extends beyond the three-point line. He’s also a volume shooter, attempting 16.9 field goals and 7.9 free throws per game. Remarkably, he possesses a great deal of vision and is one of the best passers at the position across the league. In the post, he has a variety of go-to moves that have proven to be unstoppable for opposing defenders. He also has a strong face-up game and has the athleticism to drive to the basket and throw the ball down, as Russell Westbrook recently found out.Defensively, he’s a legitimate rim protector. Due to the 7-footer’s lengthy wingspan, he not only averages nearly two blocks a game, but he also alters a lot of shots around the hoop. At 250 pounds, he has the girth to box out just about anyone and has the lateral quickness to handle most switches. But, the last time Embiid played a back-to-back was in 2013.At the time, he was a standout at the University of Kansas.Amazingly, he never played both games of a back-to-back in his entire four-year NBA career. Of course the first two seasons don’t really count since he missed them due to injuries, but none of his 70 career games played up until Saturday came on consecutive days. The Sixers finally cleared the big man to play his first back-to-back on Friday and Saturday, and he couldn’t hide his excitement.“I’m excited. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this moment and I’m ready to go out there and prove everybody wrong,” he told Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer ahead of Saturday’s contest."I feel like I've been ready," Embiid said, per ESPN. "Now, I'm going to feel like an NBA player. Taking days off in the NBA is not that easy.”Not only was Embiid excited, but so were his teammates."We're in a rhythm now. It's tough when he comes out and we've got to back into another rhythm," Sixers rookie Ben Simmons said.

After posting 17 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in 31 minutes against the Miami Heat on Friday, Whiteside put up 24 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, a block and two steals in 34 minutes on Saturday against the Indiana Pacers.

Although the team will likely elect to rest him here and there for maintenance purposes, it seems as though Philly will finally cut Embiid loose and allow him to take on the workload of every other All-Star.

Because of that, not only Sixers fans, but NBA fans everywhere can rejoice.
