There really is nothing more exciting that an academy product bursting onto the scene at a big club.

Liverpool’s youth setup is widely recognised as one of the finest in the Premier League, with local boy Trent Alexander-Arnold the success story of the 2017/18 season.

Back in 2015, Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe were the two exciting youngsters from the academy tearing it up in the first-team.

Then manager Brendan Rodgers even had this message for the rest of the Premier League.

“We have a lot of young players, and if you track their ages then it’s very exciting. If they all stay together then it can be a real exciting time here at this club,” he said.

Well, back when that quote was made, the Mirror named the five players they thought Rodgers was referring to.

Now for the big question; where are they now?

1. Jerome Sinclair

The lightning quick striker tipped to follow in Daniel Sturridge’s footsteps has not exactly made an impact in English football.

A loan spell at Wigan didn’t help him break into the first-team at Liverpool, so he was shipped off to Watford where he has made just five appearances.

He’s been on loan at Birmingham this season, where has managed to maintain his record of never scoring a senior goal.

2. Harry Wilson

The Welsh international midfielder is still yet to make his senior debut, but is still on the club’s books while enjoying a loan spell with Hull right now.

He’s looked promising with the Championship club and there is still optimism surrounding the 20-year-old’s future.

3. Sheyi Ojo

Another name still widely thought of at Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp even handing him his Premier League debut v Southampton in 2016.

He’s currently on loan at Fulham where he is smashing it, scoring four goals from out wide in 16 appearances.

He'll no doubt be part of Klopp's plans for the foreseeable future.

4. Jordan Rossiter

The English midfielder made his debut for Liverpool aged just 17 in the League Cup back in 2014, but that was as far as it went.

In 2016, he was shipped off to Rangers where has been hampered with injuries, making just eight appearances since the start of the 2016/17 season.

5. Sergi Canos

The Spanish winger graduated was plucked from La Masia by Liverpool’s academy but sadly, never really made the cut.

He made just one senior appearance for the Reds on the final day of the 2014/15 season, coming on for Ojo.

A loan spell at Brentford got him a permanent move to Norwich, however, his time with the Canaries was a huge failure, resulting in him returning to Brentford in 2017.

Not too much to rave about from the famous five…
