The bad blood continues to flow between Liverpool and Tottenham.

Since Sunday's 2-2 draw at Anfield, Virgil van Dijk has accused both Harry Kane and Erik Lamela of diving, while Mauricio Pochettino has been forced to come out and defend his players.

Monday night saw the two sides go head to head again, and though the Premier League 2 fixture wasn't anything like as controversial as the senior sides' meeting, it did feature one unsavoury incident involving Adam Lallana.

The England international has endured an incredibly disheartening season, with injuries ruling him out of all but six league games - and only one of those saw him start.

That frustration came to a head as he faced Spurs' youngsters, in a game when he ought to have been setting an example as the oldest player on the pitch.

When 19-year-old George Marsh leapt up to make a relatively innocuous challenge on him in the air, Lallana reacted furiously, grabbing him around the neck:

The Reds' under-23 boss Neil Critchley actually told LFCTV that he was actually about to take him off.

"I've never seen Adam react like that so I'd like to see the incident again," he said, quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

"It was ironic as we had Liam Millar on the side of the pitch and we were ready to sub him. Adam was actually coming off."

However, whether it was out of character or not, fortunately for Lallana, he has essentially got away with a charge of violent conduct.

Lallana's ban won't apply

As per the Mirror, the three-game suspension for the dismissal will only apply to PL2 games, and he is unlikely to be playing any more of those regardless.

Now he is approaching full fitness, he is in line to return to Jurgen Klopp's line-up for the weekend's game against his former club, Southampton.

Explaining his latest injury setbacks, Klopp said last week:

“It’s really unlucky. It was a really serious injury in the summer.

“Because of Adam’s quality and attitude in training, it looks immediately like we can put him in, but physical-wise he’s not fit."

Should Lallana's ban apply to the senior side too? Have your say in the comments.
