Despite two-time World Champion Shannon Briggs being 46-years-old, he has not called time on his career just yet.

And he is almost certainly not afraid of the new breed of heavyweight boxers.

Briggs has revealed he offered current WBC champion Deontay Wilder offering a large cash incentive to fight him - only for the American giant to reject it.

The reason? Well according to Briggs, it's because Wilder thinks he would lose.

“He’s scared of me, he turned down a $2million offer from my team. I got proof, I don’t need to make up stories," he told World Boxing News.

"I’ve been doing this for 31 years, I know when a man is afraid of me, I can smell it. I was born to do this.”

Despite claiming Wilder is running scared, the WBC champ is due to face unbeaten Cuban challenger Luis Ortiz in New York on April 3.

Briggs is a close friend of Ortiz, but believes Wilder will have too much power for the 38-year-old.

“Wilder should be great in that fight, everything he touches goes to sleep.

"I don’t want to throw him (Ortiz) under the bus, but Wilder has strong momentum, he’s a wrecking ball right now."

While Wilder may have considered the Briggs offer out of courtesy, you feel that he has eyes on a much bigger prize.

On the other big heavyweight clash at the start of 2018, Anthony Joshua vs Joseph Parker, Briggs is predicting the Brit to emerge victorious at the Principality Stadium.

The two unbeaten fighters will fight in front of a predicted 80,000 fans in what has been a keenly awaited bout for boxing fans across the globe.

"It’s going to a phenomenal fight, it’s a huge fight for boxing right now.

"Parker is such a skilled fighter, he has tremendous fast hands, he can throw a variety of different punches.

"He’s been born with a great jab, a great right hand, left hook, uppercut, he’s got so many different punches.

"But he’s going up against a colossal man in Anthony Joshua, I mean just look at him! He’s a machine, he’s got so much power.

"He’s a great fighter. It’s like Godzilla is taking on a mega Godzilla.

"The winner has to be the one with the three titles right now, I’d have to favour Joshua but it’s going to be a close fight and I'm looking forward to it.”

With so many different belts on the line, it shapes as another fascinating year in the world of boxing.
