Liverpool continue journey as Fulham arrive in Hamburg

Fulham may have already arrived in Hamburg for Thursday's Europa League semi-final first leg - but Liverpool have the second leg of a 24-hour journey still to look forward to.

The Reds stayed in Paris overnight, arriving by Eurostar after an earlier train ride from Runcorn to London - having been prevented from flying to Madrid by the continued disruption caused by volcanic ash from the recent eruption in Iceland.

Another train journey to Bordeaux awaits on Wednesday before a short flight to the Spanish capital where they will arrive at lunchtime ahead of Thursday's Europa League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid.

Fulham, who are chasing their first European final in history after facing Hamburg in the other semi-final, had hoped to fly by private jet to Hamburg on Thursday morning but they admitted defeat and reverted to plan B.

That saw the team complete two legs of their 600-mile journey on a luxurious coach, either side of a Eurotunnel ride from Folkestone to Calais. In Scotland, Celtic's planned friendly against AZ Alkmaar at Parkhead tonight was cancelled.
