As Floyd Mayweather was busy sending the sporting world into frenzy last week by posting videos of himself stepping into an Octagon, Paulie Malignaggi remained unconvinced that it was anything but a publicity move from the retired and undefeated boxing champ.

'Money' Mayweather teased fans around the world by stepping into the cage and wondering aloud what odds he would get on taking up a sport in which his rival Conor McGregor is the main attraction.

He did this while wearing shorts emblazoned with the logo of Irish bookmakers Paddy Power, leading fans to wonder if it was merely a publicity move or something altogether more exciting.

The world seemed to briefly come to a halt last August as McGregor was defeated in a boxing ring by Mayweather in a much hyped fight in Las Vegas that garnered millions for both men.

A rematch in a cage under MMA rules would surely be another huge money spinner, but former two-weight world boxing champion Malignaggi laughed off the idea of the boxing great entering the world of MMA.

“I just think he’s having fun teasing people because they’re so upset with how he smacked Conor McGregor around the way he did,” 'The Magic Man' exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I’d be mad if he smacked me around like that, you know. He got smacked around pretty badly and I think the fans want to see him get in the cage, so they can get to see a little bit of revenge.

"But they’re not going to get him in the cage, he’s teasing them so that he can get their hopes up. I think at the end of the day; the boy knows how to keep himself in the spotlight."

Malignaggi's salty words about McGregor clearly emanate from their controversial sparring session in the build up to the Irishman's showdown with Mayweather.

The session, held behind closed doors, became a topic of much debate after the Notorious, much to Malignaggi's fury, posted a video in which he appeared to boss proceedings in the ring with the New Yorker.

'Paulie' is clearly still bitter about the whole incident, as he went on to say: "Conor posts pictures of a sparring session he got beat up in, he posts pictures of a fight he got beat up in, he doesn’t have many highlights of fights he has won himself so he has to put up photos in which he has lost in.”

'The Magic Man' may not be convinced that Mayweather wants to don some MMA gloves and tackle McGregor in the cage, but it appears that he himself still has some unfinished business with the Irishman.
