In what was the craziest January transfer window on record, Riyad Mahrez certainly forged a bit of a reputation for himself.

In the dying embers of deadline day, the Leicester winger did everything he could to secure a mega-money move to Manchester City.

He handed in a formal transfer request, missed training and was subsequently absent for their deadline day game versus Everton

However, the Foxes stood firm, rejecting City's £60m player-plus-cash bid, with the club in no position to sell as Mahrez doesn't have a release clause in his £100,000-a-week contract.

Ever since the window slammed shut, the relationship between the Algerian and Leicester has slowly deteriorated.

He's still not returned to training and is set to receive a number of fines, with the PFA saying they will get involved if things do get even worse.

MAHREZ'S DIGGING A HOLE FOR HIMSELF

And, it seems the 26-year-old may have shot himself in the foot with his behaviour, because Pep Guardiola and the Man City hierarchy have reacted in quite a negative manner.

According to Manchester Evening News, Mahrez is still on their shortlist, but due to his disruptive behaviour, they have identified a new target in Real Madrid's Isco.

They write: "Guardiola certainly hates prima donna behaviour from his players – and Mahrez's reaction smacks of someone who would not react well to being rotated, which would certainly happen to him at City.

"Mahrez does remain on City's short-list, but with rumbles of discontent issuing from Isco's camp, he has also been lightly pencilled in by football director Txiki Begiristain."

Sometimes, it is best to just get on with your job when it doesn't go your way.

CITY MISSED OUT ON ISCO IN 2013

This isn't the first time City have shown an interest in the mercurial Spanish midfielder, as they just missed out on him when he was flourishing at Malaga.

However, sharing a room with Alvaro Morata convinced him to make the switch to the Bernabeu

City have never lost interest in Isco and with his situation at Real Madrid now looking a lot more negative, Guardiola may get his man.
