Patriots All Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski took Sunday's Super Bowl loss to the Eagles especially hard, as was plain to see during his postgame interview. Gronk cut a forlorn figure and was surprisingly non-committal when asked about his future in the NFL. He's only 28-years-old but considering the startling number of injuries he's suffered, it wouldn't be a complete shock were he to walk away from the game prematurely. Especially in a day where many of his peers are doing the same thing, a la Calvin Johnson.

Though the Patriots lost, Gronk had another monster game on the biggest stage of them all, hauling nine catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He's still in his physical prime, on a team that is likely to have a chance to win again next year, and is amongst the elite players in the league.

But, will that be enough to lure him back for another year? Maybe not if reports are to be believed.

According to Bill Burt of the aptly named Massachusetts based paper, the Eagle Tribune, Gronkowski could be set to hang up his cleats to pursue a career in acting.

Burt states that Gronk has been told by two Hollywood A-Listers, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Sylvester Stallone, that he could make millions of dollars in acting.

Adding to that, the 28-year-old has reportedly told a number of close friends that injuries have taken a physical and mental toll on him.

His injury plagued career has seen him miss nearly 30 NFL games with various issues ranging from torn ligaments and concussions, to broken bones. He also missed his entire junior year at Arizona due to a bulging disk in his back.

Gronk is brittle and injury prone, and it might be a smart play to get out of the game on his own terms.

He is well known for being frugal and money won't be the deciding factor in his decision. Especially with his family fitness business and the endless endorsement opportunities available to him post career.

When asked about his future after the Super Bowl, his response was very pensive for a usually boisterous and positive guy:

"I’m definitely gonna look at my future. We’ll sit down in the next couple of weeks and see where I’m at.” he said.

So, it certainly wouldn't be a surprise should news emerge of his intended retirement in the coming weeks or months. Nor would it be a shock to see him make an overwhelmingly successful transition into an acting career.

His infectious personality and physical attributes certainly give him a chance to be the next Dwayne Johnson if you will.
