Monaco winger Thomas Lemar has rejected a new contract at the Stade Louis II, according to the Independent. It was reported on Wednesday that the 22-year-old, who has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, prefers a move to Liverpool over all other interested clubs.Liverpool have money to spend following Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona last month and the exciting Lemar would go some way to filling the void.“He is versatile, able to perform on both flanks and in the middle, and thrives in a free role,” ESPN wrote about the France international last year.“Lemar is able to create space for himself and his teammates, and seems to have more time on the ball than other midfielders,” they added, even comparing him to Barcelona maestro Andres Iniesta.

Liverpool have made a decison on Lemar

However, despite the hype surrounding the player, he won’t be joining Liverpool in the summer.

That is according to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, who says Lemar “is not on the list of targets under consideration ahead of this summer's transfer window.”

Why Liverpool no longer want Lemar

Apparently, Liverpool have been put off by Monaco’s £90 million asking price.

Lemar scored 17 goals and provided 17 assists for Monaco en route to winning Ligue 1 and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

But his form this season has dipped - he’s netted just three goals in all competitions - and Liverpool feel that the £142m they received from Coutinho’s departure can be better spent elsewhere.

Klopp along with the rest of Liverpool’s recruitment team, are convinced that they can find another player who is more suited to what they need in the summer.

How Liverpool fans are reacting

Some Liverpool fans are pleased by the news.

And others hate it.

Dacourt: Lemar has a lot of potential

So it might not be Liverpool who signed Lemar, then. But he’s destined to leave Monaco in the near future.

Former Premier League midfielder Olivier Dacourt believes it’s only a matter of time before the winger joins “a very big club”.

"[He's] great! For his shooting especially," Dacourt told bwin this week, via the Mirror.

"Since he’s from Guadeloupe, I’ve been watching him a long time. He has a lot of potential.

"Lemar is exceptional and being watched by massive clubs around Europe. He is in Monaco but he will go to a very big club."
