John Lynch and the 49ers have wasted no time in securing the long term services of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

After a hugely impressive 5-0 run as the starter to the end the year, the niners have nailed down their franchise quarterback to a monster deal. Garoppolo will earn $137.5 million over five years, making him the highest paid player per year in NFL history.

The former Patriot signal caller will net a huge $27.5 million per season according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, bettering Matthew Stafford's $27 million a year deal.

It would be safe to say the 26-year-old was happy with his new contract:

San Francisco acquired Garoppolo in a trade with the Patriots back in October, only giving up a second-round pick in exchange for him. A deal that looks all the more impressive after the way he played towards the back end of 2017.

Securing this deal so early is huge for the niners, avoiding any scramble to fight off other suitors and rendering the use of the franchise tag unecessary.

Pairing the former second-round pick with head coach Kyle Shanahan is hugely exciting for the franchise going forward. The small sample we saw last season of Garoppolo executing Shanahan's playbook was scary for other teams and the duo will only improve their rapport with a full offseason of work together.

San Francisco legitimately looked like one of the best teams in football over the last month of the 2017 season. With shrewd free agent acquisitions and a strong 2018 draft class, a deep playoff run is not out of the realms of possibility next season.

Garoppolo is undoubtedly ready to take the reigns of a franchise and lead them to a title. His tutelage under Tom Brady and the Patriots staff has given him unprecedented experience and his physical tools have clearly been sharpened by that time in New England.

His timing, accuracy, and poise in the pocket are exceptional and allow lesser receivers to make play after play.

He single handedly turn the niners offense around in 2017, putting up 28.8 points per game in his five starts, compared to a lowly 17 points under Brian Hoyer and CJ Beathard.

Since he entered the NFL in 2014, Garoppolo has won all seven of his starts, completing 67.3 percent of his passes, with an 8.3 yards per attempt average and a 99.7 passer rating.

It's been a struggle in San Francisco ever since Jim Harbaugh left, but things are looking up and they are certain they have found the perfect quarterback to lead them forward.

Speaking at last month's Pro Bowl, John Lynch said of Garoppolo: "When you find the right guy at that position, it's really good for your franchise...We believe we've found the right guy."

This signing is a genuinely franchise altering move by Lynch and the 49ers. A year after securing their head coach of the future, they have nailed down their quarterback of the future.

The NFC West suddenly looks a crowded place again with only the Cardinals lacking a Pro Bowl level QB at this moment in time.
