Even though Roman Reigns defeated The Undertaker in the main event of WrestleMania 33 with The Deadman’s following actions suggesting his in-ring career was now over, many fans were sceptical about whether or not he’d actually call it a day.

We’re so used to seeing The Undertaker in a limited role now that it’s often a ‘we’ll believe it when we see it’ scenario. Speculation of another match at WrestleMania picked up even more steam when The Phenom cut a cryptic promo on the 25th-anniversary episode of Monday Night RAW last month.

WRESTLEMANIA

Since then, though, WWE fans haven’t seen anything in regards to another match as it’s usually straight after the Royal Rumble where we find out which lucky individual will be heading to the Grandest Stage of Them All to battle The Undertaker.

In recent months, it’s John Cena who has emerged as the star most likely to stand opposite The Undertaker in New Orleans, Louisiana. This comes after many sources have claimed on multiple occasions that this is the match WWE is looking to book for WrestleMania as it could very well be the final opportunity they have to make this a reality, since The Undertaker is edging ever closer to retirement while Cena is already on a limited schedule.

However, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now revealed why the match hasn’t yet been announced, especially since each week is going to be considered as valuable in the build-up to this epic encounter.

At the moment, Cena is booked for a match to compete inside of the Elimination Chamber where the winner of the six-man match advances to WrestleMania 34 to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.

ELIMINATION CHAMBER

As expected, Roman Reigns is considered the heavy favourite to win the match and then dethrone The Beast Incarnate. The source is claiming that the reason The Undertaker vs. Cena hasn’t been announced yet is because WWE wants all of the focus to be on the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view and not see it as a throwaway event when all of the limelight would understandably be on Cena vs. The Phenom.

Plus, if the match had already been announced and Cena was booked inside of the Chamber, it would have been obvious he wouldn’t win and the spot could have been given to somebody else.

Instead, it’s thought that their feud could kick off immediately after the Chamber, either on the same night or on RAW the following night with the match quickly being made official.
