Is there a more inconsistent team in the Premier League this season than Arsenal? The Gunners followed a 3-1 loss away at Swansea with an emphatic 5-1 thrashing of Everton at the Emirates, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring on his debut. However, the north London club were brought crashing back down to reality against their bitter rivals Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime, losing 1-0 at Wembley. The scoreline actually flattered the Gunners, with Spurs really turning on the style in the second half.Had it not been for Petr Cech, it could have been embarrassing. The only solace that Arsene Wenger could have taken from the performance was their showing in the first-half, with Arsenal holding firm and restricting Spurs going forward. They even had a few half-chances on the break, however, Wenger has made a farcical comment on their attacking prowess in the first period.Sometimes, he just doesn't help himself.

Should have had the game won by half-time? Yeah, not having any of it.

The fact that Arsenal could have been in some decent goal scoring positions had they made the correct final ball does not warrant such a comment.

Aubameyang was also the subject of a dubious offside call early on, but the fact of the matter is Arsenal were pretty much second best throughout.

Below you can see all of Wenger's comments in the post-match press conference.

WENGER'S QUOTES

"It's a game we couldn't afford to lose, of course," manager Wenger said.

"That makes it much more difficult now but we have to fight for as long as we have a mathematical chance. There was more at stake than just the derby. That's why it's so disappointing to lose the game in the way we lost it.

"I think the game should have been finished at half-time for me. We missed opportunities on counter-attacks that are not missable at our level.

"In the second half, we should have lost the game by more than one goal at the start of the second half. We were destabilised by the goal they scored and they had two or three more opportunities that they could have scored."
