Barnes is ready for Premier League return

Winger Giles Barnes believes West Brom are better placed to tackle the Barclays Premier League after winning promotion.

The 21-year-old was involved in Derby's woeful 2007-08 campaign, when the Rams accrued a Premiership record low points total, but says things are different this time.

Barnes told the Shropshire Star: "This team is miles ahead. That's no disrespect to the team we had then, but Billy Davies did a really good job to even get us up."

He added: "Even he said we went up too early and we probably weren't ready and I think most of the players agreed with that. He didn't get much money to do what he wanted to do so he had to work with what he was dealt.

"Albion are a good passing team - the best in the league - so that's a good start because it's about keeping the ball and making other teams work for it.

"We can finish and we can score so we just have to keep at it as it is and build on what we've got. We have some really good players and a very fine squad. I think it's good enough to stay in the Premier League."
