Harry Kane was awarded the Man of the Match award by BT Sport after scoring the only goal in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime; however, many viewers felt that Mousa Dembele was unfortunate to miss out on the accolade. The Belgian midfielder, 30, produced a superb performance in the middle of the park, bossing Arsenal’s midfield trio of Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Jack Wilshere. The Mirror handed Dembele a 9/10 rating, naming him as the game’s standout performer, while the Daily Mail also gave him the same mark.Dembele has made 210 appearances for Spurs since joining the club from Fulham in 2012 but is rarely spoken about as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders. But is that because he’s just not consistent enough over the course of an entire season? Or is he underrated?

How Alex Ferguson reacted when Spurs signed Dembele

The Belgium international was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United shortly before he moved to White Hart Lane in a deal worth £15 million.

The Red Devils were the frontrunners to land his signature but allowed Tottenham to swoop during the final week of the transfer window.

According to Goal.com, Sir Alex Ferguson believed that Tottenham got the deal of the summer that year.

The legendary Scot, who would call time on his glittering managerial career a year later, was convinced that Dembele would prove to be a bargain in time and privately hailed the move as fantastic business for the north London outfit.

Ferguson, as he has been so often throughout his life, was spot on on this occasion.

Fifteen million pounds for Dembele does, indeed, now look an absolute bargain for Spurs.

And no doubt Fergie was kicking himself again after watching the midfielder’s masterclass against Arsenal on Saturday.
