Manchester United's season has certainly been marred with inconsistency.

Some weeks, Jose Mourinho's side look like they can conquer the best world football has to offer and then in some fixtures, they look a pale shadow of a top six Premier League side.

The 2-1 loss to Huddersfield earlier in the season was perhaps their worst outing, while the 2-2 draw at home to Burnley was another display which revealed their frailties.

Against Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, the United that Mourinho is not too fond of turned up at St James' Park.

Paul Pogba appeared to pick up an injury in the warm-up but played for 60 minutes - albeit very poorly - while Chris Smalling certainly didn't have his best game in a United shirt.

However, the one man who Red Devils fans were most concerned with was Jesse Lingard, the man who has arguably been their player of the season so far.

The Englishman lined up in a front four containing Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial, but was easily the worst of the quartet going forward.

United fans were particularly concerned with his inability to pass the ball throughout his hour on the field.

MAN UTD FANS WORRY ABOUT LINGARD

It certainly wasn't his best day of the season.

The United youth product has enjoyed his finest campaign of his young career, with the 25-year-old scoring seven times and assisting four more in 22 Premier League appearances.

He will certainly be in the frame for England's World Cup squad for the summer but for now, it appears his 'purple patch' is certainly over.
