Liverpool climbed back to third in the Premier League table on Sunday thanks to a hard-earned 2-0 win away to struggling Southampton.

Southampton enjoyed decent possession, but the visitors' display was lit up by two excellent goals from Roberto Firmino and top scorer Mohamed Salah.

The latter set up Firmino after six minutes to give Liverpool the lead and the pair linked up again three minutes before half-time, with the Brazilian producing a quite outstanding assist.

Virgil van Dijk kept his first clean sheet since his £75 million departure from St Mary's, and behind him was Loris Karius, starting his fifth Premier League game in a row.

The 24-year-old has endured several difficult moments, however Liverpool fans now seem to be convinced about one thing following the victory at Southampton.

Karius v Southampton

Karius put in a great performance against the Saints and, in fact, he kept his team in the contest in the first-half with two crucial and very good saves.

Since arriving from Mainz in 2016 for £4.7 million, the German has been in a constant battle with Simon Mignolet to be Jurgen Klopp's number one goalkeeper and hence hasn't been a regular.

What Liverpool fans are saying about Karius

However, in addition to praising him for stepping up in recent matches, Reds fans also think that Karius is clearly better than Mignolet and should be their first-choice 'keeper moving forward.

Plenty of Liverpool supporters took to Twitter to share their opinion after Karius recorded a deserved clean sheet - check out some of the best reaction below:

Is Karius the man for Liverpool?

Lots of people thought neither Karius or Mignolet were good enough, but it's becoming clear that a confident Karius could have what it takes to become a top-class 'keeper.

He will be desperate for Klopp to put his faith in him again on Wednesday night as Liverpool resume their Champions League campaign with a massive trip to FC Porto.
