Chelsea are never seemingly more than a handful of games away from a crisis.Regardless of the result against West Brom on Monday night, the pressure will remain firmly on Antonio Conte, who has made no secret of where he lays the blame for the Blues' recent struggles. The Italian has spoken all too openly about what he deems a lack of investment from the board, with the club having to cope with the added pressures of a Champions League campaign - something they did not have to contend with in their title-winning season. The 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, followed by a 4-1 mauling at Watford, were the first time Chelsea have lost back-to-back games by such a margin since October 1995.That has put the champions' transfer activity under the spotlight - which, to be fair, is exactly what Conte wants. For all his talk of their limited budget, they broke their record fee in the summer to bring in Alvaro Morata. It hasn't been completely plain sailing for the former Real Madrid striker, though, and his arrival further limited opportunities for Michy Batshuayi. While many fans are still divided on the more inexperienced forward, who joined from Marseille in 2016, he has had no hestitation in proving himself in the Bundseliga after linking up with Borussia Dortmund last month.

Abramovich wouldn't have him sold

The Belgian has contributed three goals and an assist already, but even before that, it seems Chelsea had no intention of selling him.

In fact, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has explained that it was Roman Abramovich who intervened to ensure no clause was inserted that would have allowed BVB to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent basis.

“We tried our best to get a permanent option for Michy Batshuayi, but it was a no-go for Chelsea," he's been quoted by journalist Kristof Terreur.

"When Roman Abramovich says ‘no’, it is a ‘no’.”

CONTE THINKS HE'S A 'DISASTER'

The London Evening Standard report that Dortmund will ask the question again in the summer, with Chelsea's answer presumably dependent firstly on who is in charge, and whether they believe they need him as a back-up option.

Conte admits he has not had the influence he would like on Chelsea's signings.

“I think I’m a bit of a disaster [trying] to convince the club to buy the players. In this aspect I can improve a lot," he told his press conference before the West Brom game.

“I have to learn a lot from the other coaches, the other managers. I have to speak more with the managers who are very, very good to persuade their clubs to spend money and buy top players."

In this case, it could prove to be a good thing that Abramovich is always willing to intervene.
