Retired Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher launched a scathing attack on Arsenal during Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show. The Gunners were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham on Saturday and now lie eight points behind fourth placed Chelsea.Arsenal were outplayed by their north London rivals at Wembley and plenty of Gooners have now given up on finishing in the top four this season. That means they'll have to emulate Manchester United by winning the Europa League to qualify for next season's Champions League.Arsene Wenger is prepared to name a strong side against Ostersund on Thursday night."I would have anyway gone for it, especially as we have no game between the two matches," said the Arsenal manager."I will play the normal team because it is one of the opportunities we have especially because we don't play in the FA Cup. There is no reason why I should rest players."

Jamie Carragher's brilliant rant about Arsenal

The Sky Sports pundit labelled Arsenal as "cowards" last season and - despite splashing out £55m on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - he suggested that they're even worse now.

"I’ve always questioned Arsenal’s mentality but you’ve always felt they were good enough," Carragher began.

"I still question their mentality but they aren’t good enough now. Arsenal are actually getting worse, they aren’t getting better.

"If you go back to Crystal Palace last season, I called them 'cowards' and sometimes when you look back you can think it’s a bit strong. But those (away form) stats back me up.

"Twenty-six points from 26 away games is an embarrassment for a team that are supposedly one of the top teams in the country."

He's spot on - their form away from home is desperately poor and Carragher doesn't believe the Gunners stand a chance of finishing in the top four.

"I think (top four) is virtually impossible for them," Carragher added on Monday Night Football. "They are not catching Manchester United. It's very difficult to catch Liverpool because of the points gap.

"Tottenham, who are seven points clear of them, are the best team in the league in the second half of the season.

"Ultimately Arsenal are just not good enough.

"They’ve got a points deficit and they are not as good as any of those sides. They have to prioritise the Europa League because they won’t be getting the top four."

Arsenal were brilliant during Wenger's first decade in charge but the steady decline under the veteran manager has been sad to see.
