Manchester United fans laughed off Jamie Redknapp’s suggestion that Marcus Rashford might need to leave his current employers following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal last month.

Bemused supporters pointed out the fact that Rashford was, at the time, one of only three United players to feature in every Premier League game this season alongside David de Gea and Nemanja Matic.

However, since Alexis’s debut against Yeovil Town on January 26, Rashford has failed to start for the Red Devils.

He was an unused substitute in the 2-0 defeat against Tottenham at Wembley and only appeared for the final 19 minutes in the 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town earlier this month.

He wasn’t even in the squad for the 1-0 defeat away at Newcastle United on Sunday, although reports claimed he’d suffered a minor injury against Huddersfield.

In any case, Rashford could be forgiven if he had concerns over his future at Old Trafford.

Fitting Rashford, Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku into one attacking four is already proving troublesome for Jose Mourinho.

And leaving 20-year-old Rashford out of his starting line-up is probably the United manager’s easiest decision, despite the youngster’s huge potential.

Carragher asks Henry: Does Rashford need to leave?

Thierry Henry was asked by Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football if Rashford needs to leave Old Trafford this summer in order to prevent his career from stagnating.

Henry responds to Carragher's question about Rashford

And here’s what Henry said in response….

"One of the most important things for me is that you have to play," declared Henry, per the Mirror.

"You cannot be on the bench and missing games, missing learning about the game and stopping that momentum, and an example is Rashford.

"Michael Owen had the opportunity to back up what he did the year before because he played, and he played, and he played, and he played - and I can give you more examples.

"But Rashford at times could not capitalise on what he did from that year [after his debut], because sometimes he is playing on the right, [sometimes] on the left.

"Leave is a strong word. Obviously being from there, he wants to play for United. But he has to play and it is becoming even more difficult for him since Sanchez has arrived.

"I think at the end of the season, he is maybe going to have a thinking day of 'do I stay?'"

Henry is right: Rashford will have a decision to make

Henry clearly believes that Rashford has a big decision to make this summer, depending on what happens between now and the end of the season.

The very fact that people are now asking the question ‘should Rashford leave United this summer?’ must surely be a concern for the club’s fans who love the fact that a local lad has made such a big impact at Old Trafford since making his debut back in February 2015.
