George Groves vs Chris Eubank Jr is very nearly upon us.

The WBA world super-middleweight champion will be looking to improve on his 27-3 record (20 KOs) when the Eubank circus comes to town.

In the build-up, it's the senior former fighter who has been doing a lot of the talking, but it's fair to say that in the minds of most boxing fans, they now come as a pair.

In fact, the Eubanks have been so focused on building Jr's brand in his own right, that 'Saint George' has warned they have looked too far ahead.

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier this week, Jr predicted that "winning this fight, winning the tournament, puts me in a league of my own."

The fact is that this is just the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series and even if he were to beat Groves, either Callum Smith or Jurgen Brahmer would still stand in his way of overall victory.

That's why Groves thinks the 28-year-old is making a grave error by not focusing on the fight at hand - just as he did against Carl Froch in 2014.

The Eubanks are making a key error

“I think Junior is looking beyond our fight just like I’ve done in the past — I definitely looked beyond Froch and paid the price," he said, per the Sun.

“I was always thinking of what was next after beating Froch, not because I thought winning was a foregone conclusion but I was confident I could do a job on him.

“Then I made the mistake of doing too much PR selling the fight in the build-up, which was very taxing and come fight night I obviously got it wrong.

“Eubank is looking beyond our fight as he believes he is going to win simply because it is his destiny, his time.

“But it’s not his time, this is about who is better — and he is not.”

Eubank Jr has lost only once in his career, Billy Joe Saunders defeating him on points nearly three-and-a-half years ago.

Unsurprisingly, on this occasion, Groves is predicting a knockout.

“Get knocked out and you have a massive fall from grace. There is a massive task to rebuild," he warned.

“I had to take that second defeat against Froch literally on the chin.

“Not only on the night when he caught me but again and again because I had to have ‘proper’ fights getting back to the top.

“The Eubanks have done well in commercially building Junior’s brand but they haven’t had the tests in terms of competitive fights.”
