Gerrard and Ferdinand rave about Dembele on BT Sport

Retired Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is widely considered to be one of the finest central midfielders of his generation.

The 37-year-old scouser, along with Rio Ferdinand, waxed lyrical about the former Fulham star immediately after the 2-2 draw.

"I thought Dembele's performance was magnificent," said Gerrard on BT Sport. "I can't remember him putting in a performance like that on that stage.

"I thought he was terrific all night."

Ferdinand claimed the 30-year-old Belgian is thriving thanks to his Argentine manager - and even suggested that there is no one better than Dembele in his role.

"I think the manager has to take credit," said Ferdinand. "Dembele was previously a player who people said 'he doesn't create enough, he doesn't do enough, he doesn't score'.

"He's been withdrawn into a deeper role to dictate the tempo of a game - and he's doing it better than anyone at the moment."

Spot on - he's been nothing short of world class recently and you'll be hard pressed to name a defensive midfielder playing at a higher level right now.

Former Fulham teammate John Arne Riise chimed in with his two cents on the in-form Tottenham man.
