French midfielder Paul Pogba is currently going through a difficult spell at Manchester United.

The former Juventus star joined the Red Devils for a record-breaking £89m in 2016 - and is widely considered to be one of the most talented footballers in the world.

However, Pogba has produced a couple of dismal performances in recent weeks, hauled off by Jose Mourinho during away defeats at Tottenham and Newcastle.

The 24-year-old was magnificent earlier this season but Jamie Redknapp believes his Portuguese manager must take responsibility for his drop in form.

"Everyone said that he was indispensable but now everyone is saying he’s useless again," said the Sky Sports pundit. "When things are good, he’s the best player in the world. And now because of his price tag he’s getting slaughtered.

"I think Mourinho has a big responsibility with him, it’s his job. Everyone expects him to be this big confident player, but I think deep down he needs to be loved.

"Taking him off against Tottenham, that’s not how you’re going to get the best out of him. You can see at Newcastle, his confidence was really low.

"With Pogba’s power in that dressing room, Mourinho has got to be very careful. I don’t see the benefit in upsetting one of your star players."

Mourinho annoyed at Pogba for two reasons

According to Duncan Castles, Pogba wants Mourinho to alter the formation so that he can play in a more attacking role as oppose to playing in a midfield two alongside Nemanja Matic.

Mourinho has been "unimpressed" with the club-record signing since the January arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

Castles claims the former Chelsea boss believes a player of Pogba's ability should be "capable of excelling in any midfield role."

Mourinho is reportedly "annoyed" at Pogba's "failure to adhere to tactical instruction both in his defensive contribution and when in possession of the ball".

They are each strong personalities at Old Trafford and a falling-out could spell huge trouble for Man United.

The skilful midfielder was immediately substituted on Sunday after failing to challenge aerially for the free-kick which Newcastle scored their winning goal from.

Previously, Pogba was dropped for the Premier League win over Huddersfield Town and he could find himself on the bench once again when they face Huddersfield in the FA Cup on Saturday.
