Carson Wentz's season was cut short last season due to a knee injury, which sidelined him throughout the Philadelphia Eagles' championship season.
Nick Foles took over the signal calling duties for Wentz and led the "Bird Gang" to a Super Bowl 52 victory over the New England Patriots in Minnesota. As for Wentz's ACL and LCL tear that ended his season, most analysts blame his mobile style of play.
Wentz likes to run outside of the pocket and pick up yards with his feet, often putting himself in danger of injury. In a recent interview Wentz commented on this critique from analysts.
The former second overall NFL Draft pick said that he will not change his style of play when he's back on the field (quotes via NFL.com):
"I definitely won't change, so to speak. That's what made me successful this last season and my whole career," Wentz said Tuesday on Sports Radio 94WIP, via NJ.com.
"It is something I've learned since coming into the league -- how to protect myself ... I am not going to let this change me."
Wentz's ability to scramble is one of the key aspects to his game that makes him so dynamic. Prior to his Week 14 injury Wentz and the Eagles were riding high on offense and dominating the NFC.
As he continues to rehab things are looking bright for his inevitable return. He has since ditched his crutches and was even throwing some passes prior to the Super Bowl 52 game against the New England Patriots.
Wentz admitted that the goal is to be ready for the kick off of Week One in the 2018 NFL season:
"That is definitely my goal. Timetables and all those things are always such a fluid thing," Wentz said.
"Obviously can't come out and make a declaration on anything, but my goal is to be playing in Week 1."
What are your thoughts on Wentz saying that his knee injury won't affect the way he plays the quarterback position upon his return to action? Do you think it would be best for Wentz not to be so mobile when he's on the gridiron? And how do you see the Eagles' season going next year with Wentz back at the helm of the offense?
