Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi has started his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund in electric form.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals in his first three games in Germany and he was simply unplayable in Thursday night's 3-2 Europa League win over Atalanta.

He scored a second-half brace and Chelsea fans may be starting to wonder if they made a huge mistake by letting him leave.

Batshuayi was used sparingly by Antonio Conte since joining Chelsea from Marseille for £30m in 2016 - and was eventually allowed to leave on the final day of the January transfer window.

However, Dortmund were unable to negotiate an 'option to buy' clause at the end of his six-month loan deal so Chelsea will likely be in a very strong negotiating position come the summer.

Conte brought in Olivier Giroud from Arsenal as his replacement but the Frenchman is yet to score for his new club.

Batshuayi's sublime highlights v Atalanta

Dortmund fans were worried that Batshuayi may not have the necessary ability to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - but early signs suggest the Belgian striker is even better!

He was magnificent against Atalanta, showing his strength in the build up to Andre Schurrle's opener before scoring two brilliantly-taken second-half goals.

Chelsea record-signing Alvaro Morata is yet to score in 2018 and Conte could really do with a striker that can drop this kind of performance.

That looks like hard evidence that he was mis-managed at Stamford Bridge.

Batshuayi asked about his future

Things could not be going better for Batshuayi in Dortmund and the match-winner was interviewed after Thursday night's dramatic first leg victory.

“I’m not thinking about that at all," said Batshuayi after the Europa League win. "For me, it’s important to perform well for Borussia Dortmund in every match. I’ll deal with the situation as it comes.

“I’m feeling very good at the moment and playing with a lot of confidence. It wasn’t always easy at Chelsea. Sitting on the bench, score a goal and then back to the bench is quite difficult to deal with for an attacker.”

He's got a point - Batshuayi was never given the chance to play with confidence in west London.
