Who is the greatest footballer of all-time?

Ask any football fan that question and they will probably say either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

The two superstars have won a ridiculous five Ballon d’Ors each over the past 10 years, with no player able to get even close to them.

But if you take those two freaks out of the equation, then who is the best ever?

Diego Maradona? Pele? Marco van Basten?

It’s certainly a tough question.

While it’s tough to name the greatest player ever, imagine naming the best 125 players ever.

PELE PICKS THE BEST 125 PLAYERS EVER

Well, that was the task Brazilian legend Pele faced back in 2004.

As FIFA celebrated their 100th anniversary, the former striker was asked to pick the best players to have ever played the game.

Quite why he picked 125 and not 100 is unknown…

Anyway, check out the full list here.

Now, 14 years ago, Messi and Ronaldo were just youngsters with a lot of potential. Therefore, they don’t make the list.

But dozens of other big names do.

For those English fans, seven stars that represented the Three Lions feature. They are: Gordon Banks, David Beckham, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan, Gary Lineker, Michael Owen and Alan Shearer.

TWO PLAYERS ARE STILL PLAYING

But a very interesting stat has been brought to our attention by Dream Team FC.

There’s only two of the 125 players that are still playing.

Of course, one of them is the 40-year-old Gianluigi Buffon.

The other one?

Emre Belozoglu, of course.

The former Newcastle midfielder is currently playing for Istanbul Basaksehir at the age of 37.

If you were wondering why on earth the Turk was named in the greatest 125 players of all time, he had just helped his Inter Milan side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League shortly before Pele picked the list.

That’ll explain it.

It would be very interesting to see what the list of the 125 greatest players ever would look like 14 years on. We reckon Messi and Ronaldo might feature…
