George Groves retained his WBA super middleweight world title in Manchester on Saturday night against a stubborn Chris Eubank Junior, whilst also claiming his opponents IBO crown. The pair's World Boxing Super Series semi-final went the full 12 rounds, with Groves the victor on all three judges' scorecards.Whilst the bout was full of action during the contest, some may have missed the celebration carried out by Hammersmith's Groves and trainer Shane McGuigan soon after the final bell. The build-up to the much anticipated all-British bout was full of traditional Eubank bravado. The son of Chris Eubank Senior, a veteran of 19 world title contests himself, has modelled his pre-fight antics much in the style of his father who was loved and loathed in equal measure during his own career. That division from fans was all too clear upon the fighters entering the ring when a chorus of boos greeted the Brighton based fighter.Groves, on the other hand, was welcomed into the arena with great applause and cheer. At the conclusion of the contest, which Groves dominated throughout, but also benefitted from a deep cut to 28-year-old Eubank's right eye early on, it didn't take long for the victor to rub salt into the wounds of his opponent.

With both belts going back to London, Groves and trainer McGuigan posed in traditional Eubank fashion with chests out, shoulders back, and stony faced. Replicating much mocked pre-fight posters from previous Eubank Junior contests, who many feel is living in the shadow of his father, the in-joke didn't go unnoticed for many.

Although celebrations were immediate upon the bell, an injury sustained by Groves in the final round may curtail any plans for his participation in the revolutionary boxing knockout contests final which is scheduled for June.

A suspected dislocated shoulder saw the victor travelling to hospital with his arm propped up by his medical team.

Will Eubank have the last laugh by taking his place in the final and walking home with the largest slice of a £50million pie?
