Jose Mourinho is very evidently taking the FA Cup seriously this season after fielding a very strong team in their 2-0 victory over Huddersfield.

The Portuguese manager may have been tempted to fselect a weakened side with their Champions League tie against Sevilla coming up on Wednesday, but a strong Manchester United side easily saw off the Terriers.

Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata all started, while Mourinho actually employed a three-man midfield without the ill Paul Pogba, a system which is supposed to suit the Frenchman.

In truth, United looked a lot more balanced with out him, as Michael Carrick and Scott McTominay both turned in composed displays alongside Matic.

While a lot of the talk centred on the current Pogba debacle, United legend Paul Scholes had some interesting thoughts before the game on Sanchez.

The Chilean started out on the left of a front three, producing a fairly decent performance, albeit not setting the world alight.

And Scholes was quick to point out after the game that the left-wing is where Mourinho must continue to use his January signing.

SCHOLES' SANCHEZ ANALYSIS

Speaking before the FA Cup tie, he said: "As soon as the ball comes into the middle of the park I think he struggles.

"He doesn’t seem to be aware of what’s around him. He’s started okay [at United], it’s not been magnificent or brilliant but I expect more to come from him."

Interesting.

The proposal by Scholes prompts a number of question, with the most prominent one being, what happens to Anthony Martial?

The Frenchman has forged his reputation as a brilliant right-footed left-winger, regularly cutting inside to wreak havoc on defences.

Out on the right - where he played against Newcastle - he is just not the same, so Mourinho runs the risk of wasting his talent.

However, playing Sanchez on the left could allow him to play Pogba on the left of a midfield three, benefitting him massively.

One thing is certain, Sanchez's presence surely means both French stars will not succeed in the same United XI.
